LARGE TRYONX TURTLE PROJECT

This large Tryonx turtle measures six feet from nose to tail tip. Once again, the intent of the project was to remove all of what had originally been rock matrix from the the turtle fossil. Upon completion, molds would then be generated of the individual components. These molds would be used to create wax casts for use in the “lost wax” process in order to produce bronze castings.

Pictured are the polyurethane patterns that are 85% complete. In order to finish this project, the following tasks must be completed,

- The remaining sculpting work must be completed.

- Joints need to be fabricated so as to facilitate the correct assembly of all of the components.

- Silicone rubber molds need to be created of each of the completed patterns. These molds would then be used to produce wax castings.

- The resulting wax casts are then used in the “lost-wax” process to produce the final bronze castings.
